Slower strokes and sustained forearm and hand pressure into muscle that has been tight for months rather than days, most often the upper back, shoulders and lower back. It is not simply remedial massage done harder; we check in on pressure through the session and back off where a muscle is guarding rather than releasing, because pushing through that point does not speed anything up.

Included in the price

  • Slower pace with sustained forearm and hand pressure
  • Pressure checked and adjusted through the session
  • Focus on chronically tight rather than acutely injured tissue
  • Aftercare notes, including expected next-day soreness

On the day

How this one runs.

  1. 01 Confirm the area has been tight for weeks or months, not days
  2. 02 Warm the area before any firm pressure
  3. 03 Forty-five to ninety minutes of sustained deep work
  4. 04 Aftercare and hydration advice before you leave

Asked every week

Asked about this treatment.

Will this hurt?
It should feel firm and sometimes uncomfortable in the specific tight spot, not sharp or painful. Tell us straight away if it tips into pain rather than pressure and we will back off.
Why am I sore the next day?
Sustained deep pressure can leave muscle feeling worked, similar to a solid workout, usually settling within a day. We will tell you what is normal and what is not before you leave.
Is deep tissue better than remedial massage?
Not better, different. Deep tissue is one technique within a remedial approach, used where a muscle has been chronically tight rather than acutely injured. We choose it based on what we find, not because it sounds more serious.

On this treatment

Reviews left for deep tissue massage.

  • Firm, which is what I asked for. Sore the next day exactly as they warned me, then noticeably looser by the weekend.

    Dave K., Kuluin

  • Good, honest work. Only wish I had booked ninety minutes instead of forty-five, my own fault for underestimating it.

    Wayne S., Woombye
